The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate has set up a commission on the issues on exchange of prisoners and the release of prisoners.
This is stated on the website of the information-educational department of the UOC-MP.
The commission to exchange prisoners and release prisoners was set up during the meeting of the Holy Synod on July 28.
On June 15, the head of the former UOC MP Onufrii appealed to “His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill with a request to assist in clemency and release of all Ukrainian prisoners who are in the territory of the Russian Federation.”
On the same day, UOC MP sent a letter to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, with a request “to resume the prisoners exchanging process, as well as to pardon and release prisoners who are in Ukraine.”
“The Holy Synod supported the initiative of the Metropolitan Onufry regarding the resumption of the prisoner exchange process, the release of prisoners and the establishment of peace in Donbas. Members of the Synod noted the importance of exchanging prisoners on the “all for all” basis,” the Synod’s decision says.
The commission on the exchange of prisoners and the release of prisoners included His Eminence Archbishop Nizhynsky and Prilutsky Clement, His Eminence Bishop Victor Baryshevsky, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis and Archpriest Vladyslav Dikhanov, head of the Synod Department for Social and Humanitarian Affairs.
