New York, US: A former student at St. Rose College in Albany, Vishwanath Akuthota using a USB Killer, destroyed campus computers worth tens of thousands of dollars. Device was designed for instant overload and destruction of computer circuits, The Verge informs.
The report notes that a 27-year-old attacker faces up to 10 years in prison (up to three years of observation after release) and a USD 250 thousand fine for destruction of 66 computers. It is noted that the USB Killer allows to overload the PC circuits designed to protect against overvoltage. Such devices can be quite easy to buy online.
