The member of the 23rd Ukrainian expedition to Antarctica Mykola Veselskiy, was evacuated from the Ukrainian Antarctic station «Aсademician Vernadsky» to a hospital in the city of Punta Arenas (Chile), because of acute appendicitis. This is reported by the head of the National Antarctic scientific center Yevhen Dykyi on his Facebook page.
It is reported that the antarctic station’s doctor tried to provide assistance to the Ukrainian polar explorer and biologist. But in a result of the revealed complications, the scientist had to be hospitalized.

«The past few days were quite nerveous: there was a heroic attempt of our doctor to operate the patient at the station; the complications in his condition were revealed; the effectiveness of the international system of rescue operations in the Antarctic was checking out», – the message reported.

It is noted that US icebreaker, «Laurence M. Gould», from the Palmer station, broke through to help a Ukrainian polar. On the board of the ship, Ukrainian and American doctors provided to Mykola the necessary assistance. Than the patient was taken to the nearest airport at the Chilean station «Frey». The Chilean Air Force provided a military transport with medical staff and taking the Ukrainian polar explorer to the mainland, to the closest Chilean hospital.
As «The Journalist» earlier reorted, Ukrainian polar explorers want to obtain their own expedition ship.
