Supreme Court of Great Britain allowed to disconnect people living in a vegetative state from the life support systems without a court decision.

According to the court’s decision, it is possible to disconnect a person from the life support device with the consent of doctors and relatives. The Supreme Court of Great Britain believes that these changes do not violate the European Convention on Human Rights.

In April Alfie Evans died in the UK. A few days before, doctors had shut down the artificial respiration device, which supported the life of a two-year-old boy, who suffered from brain damage Radio Svoboda reports.

Alfie Evans was in a semi-comatose state for over a year, but his parents refused to admit that his illness was incurable. The parents’ conflict with the doctors drew public attention when Alfie’s parents sued the court, challenging the decision of the council to disconnect the child from life support systems. The doctors came to the conclusion that it was impossible to cure the boy.

As the Journalist reported, in Poland, a woman in a coma gave birth to a healthy child.
