Official mascots of the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Japanese capital, which will be held in 2020, received the names of Miraitowa and Someity. About this writes official website of the Organizing Committee of Olympics-2020.
It is reported that the choice of names was made through the voting of students from junior classes both in Japan and abroad.
«From now on, Miraitowa and Someity will serve as official ambassadors of the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics», report said.
It is noted that the name of Olympic Games mascot Miraitowa consists of two Japanese words – mirai (future) and towa (eternity).
The second talisman’s name Someity is produced from the name of Someyra Sakura from Nara Prefecture, also called the Royal Cherry, and the English phrase so mighty (so powerful).
«Someity, painted in cherry blossoms, embodies the heart of Japan and the amazing abilities of Paralympic athletes», organizers of the event emphasize.
Recall that the Olympics in Tokyo will be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020, the Paralympic Games will be held from August 25 to September 6.
