The rescue helicopter with nine people aboard disappeared in Gunma prefecture (central Japan).
According to local authorities, the contact with the helicopter was lost in the morning, August 10 in the area of the active volcano Kusatsu-Shirane, which errupted in early 2018.
At the time of the incident four employees of the Department for Disaster Management and five firefighters were on board, writes Hromadske news agency. The crew was supposed to inspect the state of the mountain paths from the air, at the border of the prefectures of Gunma and Nagano.
The police assume that the aircraft has either crashed, or made an emergency landing.
As The Journalist reported, Hurricane Maria killed more than 1400 people.
