Team of French and Egyptian archaeologists found remains of Neolithic village in the Nile Delta, which is 2.5 thousand years older than Egyptian pyramids. This is with reference to Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, reports Science Alert.

Researchers have discovered several repositories with a large number of animal and plant remains, as well as ceramic utensils and stone tools. These findings, according to the authorities, indicate that people lived in Tel Al-Samar, about 140 km from Cairo in the northern province of Dakahlia, even five thousand years before our era, that is, this settlement is much older than ancient Egyptian pyramids .
A spokeswoman for ministry, Nadiya Khedr, said that analysis of biological material found «will give us a better understanding of what the first settlements in the delta were, and how agriculture has developed here».

Scientists believe that the farmers in this village were heavily dependent on rain, and study of these findings can help understand how irrigation farming originated and developed, which next few thousand years have been engaged in Nile delta. Works on site of excavation, according to portal, will be completed next season.
