The level of air pollution in Europe continues to exceed the EU and the World Health Organization (WHO) standards. This is reported by the European Environment Protection Agency (EEA), informs the German international television and radio company DW.

It is noted that the main sources of air pollution are cars, as well as agricultural activities, energy production, industry and the individual households’ activities. It is emphasized that particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide and ozone concentration are the most detrimental to health. According to the European Environment Protection Agency, the excess of particulate matter caused about 422 thousand people to die prematurely in 41 European countries in 2015, the exposure to nitrogen dioxide at the same time caused about 79 thousand deaths, ozone concentration was the cause of 17.7 thousand premature deaths .
