In the Rivne region, several dozen people blocked the traffic on the international highway Kiev-Warsaw, demanding from local authorities to solve the problem of illegal amber mining. The action was held at the Fedorovsky Lesnichestvo, which is the part of the «Klesovskoe forestry» State Enterprise.
For a half an hour people continuously walked along the pedestrian crossing, blocking the traffic of vehicles, as a result of which a traffic jam was formed on the road. However, in emergency cases, some cars were letting through. As the protesters noted, this is a precautionary action.
«During a preventive protest action, the Kyiv-Warsaw highway was blocked. All state bodies were notified about this event. Our protest is called upon to legalize the extraction of amber, since now the whole region is mining «solar stone». With a demand to solve this problem, we repeatedly appealed to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and to the President of Ukraine, as well as to the people’s deputies of the regional level. However, there is no reaction till now. Meanwhile, black schemes of mining continue to work, and this lasts for more than 30 years», – said the deputy of the Klesovskoe forestry Community Volodymyr Okhmanyuk.
This is not the first time when the Community of the Rivne region rallying against the illegal amber mining. With the same demand activists picketed the regional police station in the city of Sarny earlier. Than, the action was held in the city of Rivne, under the building of the Regional Police Department, as well as the Rivne Regional Council. Each time the participants of peaceful protests action demanded the resignation of the chairman of the district state administration Yaroslav Yakovchuk, the Head of the Sarna Police Serhiy Smaglyuk, and the dismissal of the Klesovskoe forestry director, Mikhail Oniskevich. In activists opinion, these people are inactive in resolving the issue of illegal mining of the «solar stone», and some of them even «covering up» this lawlessness.
Some regional deputies supports the intentions of the Rivne region residents to resolve the issue of amber mining to legalize this process.
«Today, people held this precautionary action in order to remind the authorities that the unauthorized extraction of amber is still continuing today. People demand the legalization of this process so they can work legally and earn money honestly. In addition, it would fill the budgets of cities, villages and towns of the region, new jobs could be created», – the deputy of the City Council of the Rivne region Vasyl Pechotin said.
