On May 8, Ukraine celebrates Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation

Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation in Ukraine was established in accordance with the Presidential Decree on March 24, 2015. The same document set up the date of its celebration – May 8.
The President also instructed to hold events, dedicated to the Victory over Nazi forces in Europe, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation and Victory Day, annually on 8-9 May.

The Presidential Decree No. 85/2018 determines that events dedicated to this date will be held in the capital and other settlements of the country. 84 thousand people are expected to take part in more than 500 public events, which will be guarded by 3,5 thousand police officers.

INFO: During the World War ll, more than 80 million people become victims of the Nazis. From 8 to 10 million of them were perished in Ukraine (5 million of them – civilian). More than 2 million Ukrainians were deported to the labor camps in Germany, close to 10 million people became homeless. More than 700 towns and urban settlements and almost 30 thousand villages were ruined.
