Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said that Ukrainians need to start a public discussion on the possibility of having dual citizenships.
«Now Ukraine should start a public discussion on the possibility of being a citizen of several countries, we must honestly say this. However, we cannot even talk about dual citizenship with Russia during the de facto war with it,» said the minister.
Regarding the Russian Federation passports, Klimkin has noted that Ukrainians should get rid of them.
«Those who have Russian passports – pass them, all the rest – let’s talk. Dual citizenship can only be possible under clear conditions. Military commanders will not be able to have them; it also does not allow to occupy certain positions having foreign passport,» the Foreign Minister added.
The minister noted that dual citizenship is introduced in European countries, European Truth reported.
«And those who have dual passports – they violate the law; although this does not mean that they are criminals. At least 11 citizens of Hungary have died in ATO (residents of Transcarpathia with dual citizenship – ed.),» Klimkin said.
As The Journalist reported, the Ukrainian authorities will not deport Transcarpathians for obtaining Hungarian citizenship.
