Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine has offered to classify the street in accordance with their purpose, as it introduced in the EU countries.
“The street classification depends on their functional purpose: pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, cars or adjacent traffic type of streets. In accordance with this, requirements and recommendations regarding the width of various functional areas can be spelled out: pedestrian, bicycle, etc.,” the ministry’s press service reported.
According to the deputy profile minister Lev Partskhaladze, Ukraine lacks an approach to the organization of pedestrian and transport infrastructure, therefore, the ministry is currently working on introducing such an approach in the country.
The official stressed that this measure will help to minimize congestion in cities, reduce the of motorization rate level to the priority of public transport and the organization of multifunctional streets for the harmonious development of human settlements.
