Deputies of a special interparty commission of the lower house of UK parliament called for the creation of an independent regulator for social networks and “ethical code”, Financial Times reports.
The head of the commission, conservative Demian Collins, said that the country’s democracy is under threat due to the actions of targeted disinformation campaigns, which often comes from unidentified sources that spreding through social networking platforms. In this regard, the deputies called for the establishment of an independent regulator for social networking sites as soon as possible, as well as a “code of ethics”, similar to the rules of the British media regulator Ofcom.
