The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law «on the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court»

Ukraine’s parliament has passed the law "on the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court" (bill No. 7440) after considering almost 1,927 amendments, made by the President Petro Poroshenko. Some 315 MPs voted for the decision. The law establishes that the High Anti-Corruption Court is a permanently acting higher specialized court in the system of Ukraine’s judiciary and it will be located in Kyiv.

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court will handled only cases of top-level corrupt officials. These are crimes related to misuse of budget funds, abuse of power or influence, bribery. In addition, the jurisdiction covers crimes with the amount of damage starts from 881 thousand UAH.
In addition, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court will also review cases of crimes on embezzlement, theft or extortion of arms and ammunition; drugs, precursors, equipment for the manufacture of drugs; fraudulent in the acquisition of documents, stamps or seals.

An Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court will be created directly. The newly established court will start its work, when at least 35 judges will be recruited.
Note that the law set the requirements for judges of the Anti-Corruption Court and the conditions under which a person will not have the right to hold such a position. In particular, the candidate should have 5 years experience in the position of a judge or 7 years as a lawyer, or scientific work in the field of law from 7 years. There is also a variant of at least 7 years experience of service for a judge/scientist in the sphere of law. Also, the judge of the Anti-Corruption Court will have to comply with the requirements in accordance with the law «on the Judicial System and Status of Judges»; have the knowledge and skills to deal with legal proceedings in corruption cases.
Electing judges of the Anti-Corruption Court will be High Qualification Commission of Judges with the help of the Public Council of International Experts.
The bill will come into force the day after the official publication, some norms – from the beginning of the work of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.
As «The Journalist» reported earlier, the PM Volodymyr Groysman said he will resign if an anti-corruption court will not be created.
