Architectural monument burned in the Lviv oblast

On August 5th, in the Mykolayiv district of Lviv oblast, a fire occurred in the wooden church of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC). Information about the fire appeared on the official website of the Main Department of State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) in Lviv oblast

«Wooden church, with an area of 125 sq. m, a height of 15 m, built in 1798, is an architectural monument of local importance. During fire outbreak the church was closed, there were no people inside», report said.

«Difficulty of extinguishing the fire was the rapid spread of fire by the wooden structures of the building. As a result of the fire, two domes of the church collapsed. Thanks to the operative actions of the firefighters and the timely involvement of forces and resources, it was possible to save the church from destruction by fire and prevent the transfer of fire to a nearby bell tower», State Emergency Situations Ministry noted.

As noted in the Emergency Department of the Lviv oblast, at the time of arrival of firefighters, the fire spread to a considerable area and covered most of the building.

Fire was liquidated at 17:18. SESU was informed of the destruction by fire of church implements and property on an area of 90 sq. m, three domes and wooden partitions on an area of 50 sq. m, as well as damages of internal wooden walls on an area of 125 sq. m. It is known that 29 rescuers and 7 units of special equipment were involved in liquidation of the fire. The cause of the fire is established. During the fire, no one was hurt.
