Archaeologists, working in the ancient city of David in Jerusalem, have found a precious ring dated by the Second Temple period, in the reservoir for washing (516 BC – 70 AD). This was reported by Dailystar.
The report notes that during archaeological research in the National Park of the City of David in Jerusalem in the oldest mikveh (ritual bath – ed.) on the pilgrim road was found a ring with a precious stone.
It is known that the ancient asphalt road runs from the Shiloah basin to the Temple Mount and is believed to have been the main road along which pilgrims went to the Temple.
The archaeologists believe, that "in the past, as today, rings and jewelry were removed before bathing," obviously, this jewelry was forgotten. Such a find, along with others, can shed light on the life of people of the Second Temple period.
The curator of the National Park of the City of David, Vice-President of the City of David Foundation, Doron Spilman, noted that this ring is another piece in the riddle of ancient Jerusalem.
INFO: the city of David is the largest existing archaeological monument of Israel, as well as the country’s national heritage site. At this place King David founded Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel 3,000 years ago. For many centuries, this place remained the residence of the dynasty of David.
As The Journalist reported, archaeologists discovered a buried 20-meter ship in the south-east of Norway, dated in the time of the Vikings period.
