WHO: Excessive social media use harms to adolescents’ mental health

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is one of the main mental illness among adolescents. This is reported on the official website of the organization.
The WHO explained, that the each person’s youthfulness is accompanied by a number of life events that can cause significant stress and anxiety.

«In some cases, such ignored experiences can lead to the development of mental illness,» – experts explained.

Excessive use of virtual networks during the day leads to additional stress on the adolescents’ psyche.

«Half of all adolescents’ mental illnesses start to develop when they are aged 14, but in many cases the diseases do not manifest and are not treated,» – the report says.

According to the experts, the formation of mental stability at early age will help to reduce the risks of developing mental disorders and diseases among adolescents and young people.

«Prevention begins with the acknowledging and understanding of the early symptoms of mental illness. Parents and teachers need to instill in children and adolescents the necessary life skills which will help ‘em to overcome everyday difficulties at home and at school,» – noted the organization.

As The Journalist reported, the Health Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration published statistics on patients with mental illness.
