The American space agency has successfully launched Parker Solar Probe, which for the first time in the history of mankind will reach the Sun’s atmosphere.
As NASA agency twitted, probe has been launched from Space Launch Complex at Cape Canaveral.
The spacecraft will fly to the Sun for seven years until it makes its closest approach at six million kilometers from the surface of the star: this range could not have been overcome by any spacecraft before. The temperature there reaches 1377 degrees, so the apparatus is covered with a carbon-containing shield 11.4 centimeters thick.
The purpose of the mission is to obtain new data on solar activity and to measure the parameters of solar winds.
As The Journalist reported earlier, NASA has extended Juno mission until 2021
