Following the US Congress, US Senate passes the initiative to allocate USD 250 million to Ukraine for defense

The US Senate supported the allocation of USD 250 million assistance to Ukraine for the security sphere, the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States reported.

«The US Senate passed a draft law «on the US budget for 2019 for national defense» voted by the House of Representatives, which authorized the allocation of USD 250 million financial aid for security assistance to Ukraine provided by the US Defense Ministry. USD 50 million out of this amount should be allocated for lethal weapons,» – the report said.

The embassy noted, that the document includes the main provisions of the draft Law «on Cooperation with Ukraine on Cybersecurity», which provides assistance to Ukraine in strengthening the possibilities of protection from cyber attacks, ensuring the security of computer networks of public authorities, reducing dependence on Russian information and communication technologies, facilitating participation in information exchange programs.

The law will come into force after being signed by the US President.
