President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky by his decree No.333/2019 has dismissed Valeriy Geletey from the post of head of the State Security Administration of Ukraine. By another decree, he appointed Oleksiy Otserklevych, who took part in fighting for the Donetsk airport, as new agency’s head.

The relevant decrees Zelensky signed on May 29. It is noted that the president received recommendations on the candidacy of Otserklevych from the current officers, as well as from veterans, volunteers and journalists.

“I believe that such officers as Oleksiy Otserklevych, as well as professional sergeants and ordinary fighters who voluntarily went to the army in 2014 and who were then squeezed by the army bureaucracy from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, would be improved and returned to active service. I am convinced that Oleksiy Otserklevych will cope with new challenges with dignity. After all, he will definitely have a hard time with me. I intend to go to people – as often as I can. Despite the risks that State Security Administration employees will see in this,” Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the appointment.

Recall Oleksiy “Kupol” Otserklevych became famous for his military cunning, which allowed Ukrainian Army to rotate its military and volunteers in the Donetsk airport without a single shot. Otserklevych was awarded with the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky III class.

As The Journalist reported, Zelensky appointed Goncharuk as Deputy Head of Presidential Administration.
