President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has said that it is necessary to change the leadership of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
“SBI director’s right-hand man is suspected of receiving USD 150,000 bribe. Another argument in favor of the need to reload the SBI leadership,” the president said.
Zelensky noted that the SBI was created as an independent and objective institution:
“It is a pity if these good intentions will not materialize. I urge people’s deputies to support important amendments and, in general, bill No.2116 regarding the improvement of SBI work.”
According to the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Affairs Denys Monastyrsky (Servant of the People faction), an amendment on the transfer of investigators and prosecutors, working on the Maidan case, to the SBI should be voted before the law on improving SBI activities to be adopted.
The parliamentarian also said that the Committee supported the amendment on transferring investigators and prosecutors of the prosecutor’s office to the SBI. In addition, this amendment will be put to a vote before the final vote for the law as a whole.
Monastyrsky added that this is done for the Verkhovna Rada to support the necessity and urgency of the investigation of the Maidan.
As The Journalist reported, Ukraine’s Cabinet changes composition of management and supervisory boards of all strategic enterprises.
