The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the new prosecutor general will obtain the authority to replace local prosecutors.

The President said this at a meeting with representatives of the Cherkasy region, when some participants of the conversation had complained about the work of the prosecutor of the region Serhii Ovcharenko.

“I find it difficult to say anything about the Prosecutor. First, I do not know this person. Second, we will appoint a new Prosecutor General. We are going to do this when a new Verkhovna Rada starts its work. In addition, his task will be to change all prosecutors. Let the Prosecutor General deal with this issue,” Zelensky emphasized.

The head of state also clarified that his powers do not include the appointment and dismissal of local prosecutors.

Recall that on June 11, the President signed a letter of resignation for Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko. However, the parliament refused to consider this submission.

As The Journalist reported earlier, Serhii Kiz has become new Deputy Prosecutor General.
