Zelensky, Pompeo discuss receiving credit guarantees from U.S. to Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during a phone conversation discussed issues of countering the coronavirus and the possibility of obtaining loan guarantees from the U.S. necessary to stabilize Ukrainian economy.

Zelensky expressed support for the U.S. in their fight against the pandemic and condolences to the Americans who lost loved ones.

“The United States is now at the epicenter of fighting the pandemic. I share the pain of thousands of Americans who have lost loved ones, sincerely wish the sick people to recover as soon as possible. I am confident that the United States will pass these challenges successfully. I wish you good health,” the President said.

Zelensky also thanked the American side for providing targeted assistance to Ukraine to combat coronavirus.

“I am grateful to the U.S. for allocation of targeted assistance, USD 1.2 million, to fight coronavirus,” the head of state emphasized.

The parties also discussed the possibility of Ukraine obtaining loan guarantees from the U.S. necessary to stabilize the economy, in addition to the resources that Ukraine is planning to receive from the IMF, the World Bank and other foreign partners.

The President expressed special gratitude to the United States for its continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, both bilaterally and within the UN, as well as for its consistent policy of sanctions against Russia.

The President also informed about the situation in Donbas and the implementation of the agreements after the meeting in the Normandy format, which were held in December last year.
