President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has registered a bill in parliament that provides for the possibility of private companies to produce alcohol in Ukraine, the President’s Office (OP) press service reported.

The production of alcohol by state-owned factories has decreased four times over the past ten years, while the volume of the shadow alcohol market has grown from 10% in 2007 to 55% in 2019.

In this regard, it was decided to propose the abolition of the state monopoly on the production of alcohol from January 1, 2020. Meanwhile, private enterprises of different types of business ownership will be allowed to produce alcohol in Ukraine. The main condition for the production of alcohol will be obtaining a license from the state. In addition, the bill introduces the full liberalization of alcohol exports from Ukraine. At the same time, Zelensky proposes to temporarily ban the free import of alcohol into Ukraine.

As The Journalist reported, Zelensky ordered to design national plan on protection Ukrainians of alcohol and drug use.
