President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Decree No. 414/2020 on the Ukrainian Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on Donbas. By this document, Vitold Fokin was removed from the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG and relieved of his duties as the first deputy head of the delegation, the President’s Office reports.
“For the President, it is essential that everyone entrusted with the functions on behalf of the state should always be guided in their activities and statements by the national interests of Ukraine and act fairly. The President stated that Vitold Fokin deviated, first of all, from a fair assessment of the temporary occupation [by Russia] of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of our state,” the message reads.
President’s Office noted that representing the state at any level is not a chance for personal views and ambitions, but an unconditional obligation to implement the position of the state and the interests of the Ukrainian people.
“The work of the Ukrainian delegation in the TCG will continue on the basis of a clear understanding of Russia’s complete control over the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The main goal for our delegation, as well as for the entire state, is the return of all temporarily occupied territories, our people, as well as the establishment of a lasting peace exclusively on Ukrainian terms,” the President’s Office emphasized, adding that “one cannot simply call the conditions of the temporary occupation of a part of our territory, turning a blind eye to the existence of occupation structures and the complete lack of security in this territory.”
“It is necessary to withdraw all illegal armed groups, their military equipment from Ukraine, to carry out a complete de-occupation and return to Ukraine control over part of the border with Russia. Only in this way we can achieve peace. We urge the members of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG to work 24/7 to achieve this main goal,” the President summed up.
