1,310 people become ill with measles in Ukraine over past week

According to the Ministry of Health, 1,310 people are reported to have got sick with measles for a week, along with above 52,000 cases of measles have been reported since the beginning of the year.

“According to the operative data of the Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, during the 22nd week of 2019, 1,310 people fell ill with measles – 643 adults and 667 children,” the report said.

The report notes that from May 24 to 30, the most measles cases were registered in Kharkiv Oblast (184 patients: 120 adults and 64 children), Kyiv (128: 76 adults and 52 children), Kyiv Oblast (128 patients: 74 adults and 54) Khmelnytskyi Oblast (93 patients: 40 adults and 53 children) and Ternopil Oblast (82 patients: 25 adults and 57 children).

The ministry noted that since the beginning of the year (from December 28, 2018 to May 30, 2019), 52,034 people fell ill with measles – 24,534 adults and 27,500 children; 17 people died from measles-related complications.
