The International Monetary Fund (IMF) received about 80 requests for financial support to combat coronavirus pandemic. This was reported on the organization’s website.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva reported an “extraordinary spike” in requests for IMF emergency financing.
The IMF expects that the number of requests for financial assistance will increase.
“About 80 countries have submitted applications, and most likely more applications will come. Usually, we never have more than several requests at the same time,” Georgieva said.
The first emergency request from Kyrgyz Republic has already been approved.
