In the margins of the 22nd EU-Ukraine summit, which took place on October 6, in Brussels, the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishina signed three programs worth EUR 60 million, the EU Delegation to Ukraine reports.
It is noted that these programs will help to boost country’s resilience and overcome the socio-economic impact of coronavirus pandemic.
According to Oliver Varhelyi, “this support package will help Ukraine to develop a resilient society and economy, including in the regions most affected by the conflict.”
“The newly signed programs are part of our EUR 190 million assistance to tackle the impact of coronavirus crisis in the country. We will continue to actively support Ukraine’s reform process and economic recovery,” the EU Commissioner said.
For example, the EU4ResilientRegions program with a budget of EUR 30 million is aimed at enhancing the resilience of eastern and southern Ukraine to the negative consequences of the ongoing conflict, including to hybrid threats and other destabilising factors.
In addition, the EUR 20 million worth Civil Society Facility program will strengthen the civil society organizations capacity to participate in decision-making and public life.
The third of the signed programs, a EUR 10 million Climate package for a sustainable economy, will support Ukraine in developing a holistic approach to restructure key economic sectors towards a low carbon economy.
