Change of leadership of UkrOboronProm: G7 ambassadors remind Ukraine of her commitments

The G7 ambassadors have stated that the reform of the state concern Ukroboronprom, which is supported by the G7 countries, is fundamental for the economic future of Ukraine.

This statement was reaction on information about a possible change in the leadership of the state concern.

“Ukroboronprom reform, supported by the G7 members, is of fundamental importance for the economic future of Ukraine. That is why Ukraine has committed itself to reforming Ukroboronprom in accordance with OECD principles. Only the leadership of Ukroboronprom, that adhere to the principles of transparency and good governance, can ensure the success of the state concern,” the statement reads.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal submitted a proposal to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for the appointment of Serhii Tykhonov, who currently heads the Department of Security and the Defense Industry Complex in the President’s Office, as CEO of Ukroboronprom.

Serhii Tykhonov was a People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the III and IV convocations (1998-2006) from the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine and For United Ukraine bloc.

Since mid-2019, Ukroboronprom has been headed by ex-Minister of Economy Aivaras Abromavichus, who replaced all his deputies and brought a new team to the state concern. The steps to reform Ukroboronprom proposed by the new officials were welcomed by Ukraine’s international partners.
