China congratulated Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris on winning the US presidential election, ending rumors that Beijing will not officially recognize Biden’s victory, Bloomberg reports.
“We are monitoring the response to this US presidential election both within the United States and from the international community. We respect the choice of the American people and congratulate Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin.
The publication notes that China has acknowledged victory after several TV channels announced that Biden would defeat incumbent President Donald Trump in Arizona. China has been one of the few states that has so far refrained from commenting as Trump disputed the results.
“We understand that the outcome of the US presidential election will be determined in accordance with US laws and procedures,” the Chinese diplomat said.
It should be noted that congratulations to Biden were made on the tenth day after the vote. This happened after Trump signed a decree banning Americans from buying shares of companies associated with the PRC military.
