The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to extend the Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline to Hungary bypassing Ukraine.

«It’s no secret that Hungary wants the gas pipeline built from the south of the Hungary to pass through Hungary. This will be a great opportunity for Hungary, and I asked the Russian president to think seriously about this opportunity,» – Orban said.

According to Mr Orban, the countries have also agreed a gas delivery service from Russia to Hungary for 2020, UNIAN news agency reports.

In turn, Putin said that one of Turkish Stream land extensions could pass through Hungary in the future.

«I do not rule out that after the completion of the Turkish Stream, one of its land extensions could pass through Hungary,» – the Head of the Russian Federation said.

As The Journalist reported, Russia does not guarantee gas transit through Ukraine after 2019.
