The Polish Parliament approved a bill that prohibits judges from criticizing governmental reforms and staff decisions in the judiciary, Deutsche Welle reported.

The Sejm of the Republic of Poland backed the bill. After it is expected the President Andrzej Duda will sign the bill.

The law restricts the judiciary from participating in any social activity that may be considered political. In addition, it prohibits judges from criticizing new appointments of judges or the powers of state bodies.

President of the Supreme Court Małgorzata Maria Gersdorf has already called the document “the gagging order”. The bill has also been criticized by the European Union, the United Nations, Polish legal experts and opposition lawmakers.
