CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev has said that the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress supported the bill on the defense budget for 2020, which envisages sanctions against companies providing for the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

“The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly (377 congressmen against 48) supported the bill on the US defense budget for next year. In addition to the decision to provide USD 300 million of military assistance to Ukraine, this document also contains mandatory sanctions against companies that ensure the construction of Nord Stream-2,” Kobolyev emphasized.

The next step will be a vote for this bill in the Senate next week and the signing of the law by President Donald Trump.

At the same time, the Presidential Office thanked the U.S. House of Representatives (lower house of Congress) for supporting sanctions against the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

“Ukraine is grateful for 337 votes to support sanctions related to construction of Nord Stream-2. This is a political project that undermines the energy security of Europe,” the President’s Office said.

As The Journalist reported, Naftogaz receives offer from Gazprom for gas transit from January 2020.
