The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Volodymyr Yelchenko, speaking at the open debate of the UN Security Council, has said that the Russian Federation modern political course is shifting responsibility, manipulation and propaganda, interfering in the internal affairs of states, fomenting international conflicts with arms supplies and financing terrorism, killing civilians, including medical officers. Ukraine has been opposed to such Russian actions for more than five years, Ukrinform reports.

In his speech, Yelchenko has stressed the necessity to not only condemn transnational criminal activity, including terrorism, but also effectively resist it and bring those responsible to justice.

“We recognize the urgent need for additional effective means of countering the latest trends in terrorism and organized crime. In particular, when terrorism and criminal components integrate with impunity into the public policies of some countries, this leads to gross violations of international law, including crimes of aggressive war and crimes against humanity, ”the Ukrainian representative to the UN said.

Yelchenko noted that transnational criminal activity should be condemned and punished, because the situation in Ukraine proved that the connivance of aggression to lead to its intensification only.

“That is why it is critically important to resolutely bring the aggressor state to justice and use all the necessary tools to return it to the framework of international law,” Yelchenko said.
