Mikheil Saakashvili, head of the executive committee of Ukraine’s National Reform Council, said that the legalization of gambling in Ukraine, namely the introduction of a single fixed license for both online and physical casinos, could bring more than USD 230 million of profit to the state budget in the first year.
“I have held an online discussion with David Arakhamia, Danil Getmantsev, representatives of the parliament and business regarding the adoption of the law on gambling. The truth is that gambling has long since necessary to legalize as it is working illegally now and funds “protectors” instead the state budget,” Saakashvili said.
According to him, “gambling made it possible to build world-famous cities, such as Las Vegas in the United States or Batumi in Georgia.”
“We can identify certain depressed regions or territories in Ukraine and literally turn them into Klondike. According to our preliminary estimates, the budget can receive more than USD 230 million profit in the first year by introducing a single fixed license for both online and physical casinos. This is quite real and simple enough to be implemented,” Saakashvili convinced.
He also added that “the main thing is not allowing new corruption schemes to be created.”
“Do not create any useless commissions, regulatory bodies and other schemes whose sole purpose is to knock taxes out of business. This is the main condition of President Zelensky and I completely agree with him. Everything should be as simple and transparent as possible. This is the main guarantee of successful reforms!” Saakashvili summed up.
