Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that currently Ukraine does not agree that the plane of Ukraine International Airlines was shot down in Iran due to human error.
“I want to emphasize: it is too early to say that the plane was shot down due to human error, as the Iranian side claims. We have many questions. We need many authoritative, impartial, maximally objective answers to what had happened. At present, Ukraine cannot agree with the fact that the plane was shot down as a result of a human error. We are convinced that this issue should be resolved within the framework of the investigation with the establishment of all the facts. After that, it will be possible to state definitely that a certain version was behind the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft,” Kuleba said.
According to the minister, today, the imposition of interpretations is erroneous, and everyone should focus on establishing legal facts.
Also, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine specified that Iran will be responsible for what has been done in accordance with international law, and the Foreign Ministry will do everything to ensure that Iran pays the highest price for what happened.
“Shot down a civilian aircraft in any case, regardless of the reason, is an unlawful act, and Iran will be responsible for this act in accordance with international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is fully prepared for this legal and diplomatic struggle, and we will do everything possible to ensure that Iran pays the highest price for what had happened,” Kuleba emphasized.
The Foreign Minister also added that the Iranian side expressed its readiness to arrive to Ukraine for negotiations on compensation between July 20 to 30.
“We received information from our embassy in Iran that the Iranian side expressed its readiness to arrive to Ukraine for negotiations on compensation from July 20 to 30,” the diplomat said.
