The Verkhovna Rada adopted Law No. 3433 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons Who Took Part in Protecting the Territorial Integrity and Inviolability of Ukraine”.
The designated decision was supported by 230 deputies. The law comes into force two months from the date of its publication.
The deputy Hryhoriy Nemyria noted that the given law provides the right to persons who fought for Ukraine’s independence to receive Ukrainian citizenship and to protect them from being extradited to the countries unfriendly to Ukraine.
The legal amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons, which stipulates that foreigners and stateless persons who helped units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units or volunteer formations and received temporary residence certificates are considered to be in Ukraine legally, including the cases when the validity of the passport document has expired or is subject to exchange.
In addition, the law determines the algorithm for issuing temporary residence certificates to such persons in Ukraine. The law also provides that foreigners and stateless persons who fought for Ukraine cannot be forcibly returned to their country of origin or to the third country which committed an act of aggression against Ukraine.
